Class Description

Ethics and ethical decision making is one of the most important professional competencies used in health practices (Remley & Herlihy, 2019) and critical also in gambling disorders treatment and prevention.  Are you using a self-reflective practitioner practice model when faced with ethical issues in problem and disordered gambling advocacy, treatment, and prevention?  What are the slippery slopes in problem/disordered gambling? What do we do when family members contact us with information about their loved one engaged in risky gambling?   If I participate in recovery fellowship and am also a gambling counselor or peer specialist, how can I avoid dual and multiple relationships?  How do I respond when a client asks me to write a letter of support for their justice process and want information shared that is not true? Can I get someone off of the Voluntary Exclusion List if I have not engaged in a professional evaluation? This 2-hour seminar will review ethical dilemmas presented in problem and disordered gambling, review of ethical principles, and a decision-making model to navigate ethical practice in problem/disordered gambling.
