CCGC

What is CCGC certification?

The California Certified Gambling Counselor (CCGC) is a counseling credential established in the year 2000 and issued by CalPG. It recognizes eligible professionals who have completed training specific to the screening and treatment of gambling disorder, supervised counseling, and other certification requirements.

Benefits of Becoming a CCGC

Certification provides a formal way for counselors to document their specialized training and supervised experience in gambling disorder counseling, while helping develop the skills to recognize and respond to gambling-related concerns.

Certified counselors are also listed on the 1-800-GAMBLER referral list and receive 10 complimentary continuing education hours from calpg.online during each two-year renewal cycle.

How is CCGC different from CalGETS authorization?

CCGC is a counseling credential. California Gambling Education and Treatment Services (CalGETS) authorization allows eligible providers to offer services through California’s state-funded treatment program. They are separate programs, and earning one does not provide the other.

Meet Our Experts

CalPG.online instructors bring experience from problem gambling treatment, prevention, research, public health, and related fields. Each instructor is selected for their subject matter knowledge, professional experience, and ability to provide practical information for behavioral health professionals and others who support people affected by problem gambling.

Help Services

One-on-one counseling or therapy is often one part of a broader treatment strategy. Additional tools and services can support treatment, many at no cost. Below are a few options for counselors and therapists to consider with their clients.

Motivational Text Messaging

Messages tailored to your client's personal needs, designed to encourage them to enter/stay in treatment, maintain recovery, and more.

Self-Assessment Questions

Learn if your client may have a gambling problem. There are tests that tell you if they need help with gambling (these are not a substitute for speaking with a treatment professional).

Residential Treatment Facilities

State-funded no-cost inpatient treatment program where your client will live in a residential facility and receive around-the-clock care. Residential Care Facilities are available at no-cost if you live in California.

Has Gambling Harmed You or Someone You Care About?

You are not alone. More than 1.2 million adults in California will experience a gambling problem during their lifetime, and each person’s gambling may affect as many as seven others.

Free and confidential help is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
