CalPG.online offers accessible online learning sessions designed to support professionals in working toward their California Certified Gambling Counselor (CCGC) credential, expanding their knowledge of problem gambling treatment, and earning continuing education (CE) hours. These one- to two-hour courses provide practical, evidence-based training and offer CEs approved through CAMFT and CCAPP-EI, making it easy to build skills and stay current in the field.
The California Council on Problem Gambling (CalPG) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals and families affected by problem gambling through education, prevention, research, and access to treatment resources. Founded in 1986, CalPG works statewide to raise awareness, provide training and certification for professionals, and connect those in need to support through programs such as the 24/7 helpline and community outreach initiatives.
Since 2000, CalPG has trained and certified gambling counselors across California to meet the growing need for problem gambling treatment.
The California Certified Gambling Counselor (CCGC) is a professional certification for individuals trained to treat problem gambling and support affected individuals and families. The program includes a 30-hour training, supervised counseling experience, and additional requirements to ensure competency in gambling disorder treatment.
The CCGC program is designed for behavioral health and treatment professionals who want to expand their skills in working with problem gambling and affected individuals. To become certified, applicants must hold at least a bachelor’s degree and either an advanced license (e.g., BBS, APA) or a credential in a mental health or addiction field (e.g., CCAPP, CADTP). Credentialed applicants must also have a minimum of one year of clinical experience and work under licensed supervision.
CCGC-certified counselors gain specialized training, receive referrals through the 1-800-GAMBLER helpline, expand their client base, earn a recognized credential, access free continuing education for renewal, and make a meaningful impact on individuals and families affected by problem gambling.

Our instructors are highly qualified and carefully selected professionals who are regularly measured and observed to ensure the highest standards of professional education. We require that our instructors have extensive experience in the problem gambling or a related field, and each is a subject matter expert in the topic(s) on which they present.
The CEPA program is recognized by the BBS as an approval agency. As a CEPA Agency, CAMFT has the authority to approve CE providers for Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (LPCC), and Licensed Educational Psychologists (LEP).
CCAPP is the largest and longest-standing organization dedicated to supporting addiction programs and professionals in California.
An APA CE provider is an organization approved by the American Psychological Association to offer continuing education (CE) credits for psychologists. Currently, CalPG can only give APA credit for Live Webinar classes.
