The California Council on Problem Gambling (CalPG) is a non-profit organization, founded in 1986, dedicated to assisting problem gamblers and their families by promoting awareness, education, research, prevention and treatment for problem gambling.
We fulfill our mission through several core programs:
Since 2000, CalPG has trained and certified gambling counselors across California to meet the growing need for problem gambling treatment. The Chair of the CalPG Training Committee provides leadership and oversight for training programs related to problem gambling and plays a key role in the CCGC certification process. This includes reviewing and approving applicants for certification at the bachelor’s level, ensuring they meet all requirements. The Chair also supports course development, maintains continuing education standards, and collaborates with presenters and staff to ensure high-quality, relevant training for professionals across California.
Suzanne Koch Eckenrode, LMFT, BACC, ICGC-II/CCGC-II, brings over 24 years of experience in the problem gambling field. She maintains a private practice in Orange County, California, providing trauma-focused, EMDR-informed treatment for gambling disorder, betrayal trauma, mood and anxiety disorders, and couples. As Chair of the CalPG Training Committee, Suzanne provides oversight for training and certification standards, including reviewing and approving CCGC applicants at the bachelor’s level. She is also a leading CalGETS provider, clinical supervisor, and trainer, and developed the Trauma Assessment for Partners of Disordered Gamblers (TAPDG).
Private contributions like yours help us reach more than 150,000 Californians each year!
