Gambling disorder is frequently referred to as the hidden addiction, normalized in our society, going undetected in various settings. Gambling can cause harm to the individual and those who care for them. Although gambling does not directly cause domestic violence, it can intersect in a variety of ways. People may seek gambling venues as safe spaces to escape abuse. Even though physical violence overshadows our perception of domestic violence, economic abuse is highly prevalent among those experiencing gambling-related domestic violence. Greater awareness is needed regarding the impact of gambling and domestic violence to help empower survivors to financial wellness.
