Class Description
This talk will summarize the current knowledge basis related to online gambling in the United States. The nature of online gambling in the United States will be discussed. Legislative changes around online gambling will be reviewed, with a focus on how access has expanded dramatically throughout the U.S. Types of legal online gambling will be explained, and the implications of legalization of online gambling will be reviewed. A large portion of the class will focus on sports gambling specifically, with a focus on how sports gambling expansion is driving a number of concerning trends in gambling harm. Data showing the natural trajectories of sports gamblers in the United States will also be reviewed, with a focus on understanding how sports gambling corresponds to problem gambling behavior and other addictive behaviors over time.
