Unit 2-12: Comorbidity Issues and Problem Gambling

Purpose:
Among problem gamblers seeking treatment, almost 50% indicated that a comorbid condition increased the severity of their gambling problem. Awareness of disorders that are likely to coincide with problem gambling may highlight individuals at increased risk who should be assessed for disordered gambling, as well as inform comprehensive treatment plans. In this class, we will explore intervention techniques and crisis intervention steps to use with this population.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session, the participant will be able to:

• Understand the relationship between comorbidity and problem gambling;
• Learn about four warning signs indicating depression in problem gamblers;
• Describe the three typologies of the Pathways Model;
• Know the nine predictors of treatment outcomes for problem gamblers suffering from comorbid conditions.
