Purpose:
The rapid nature of technological change and scientific discovery require the seasoned clinician to not just prepare to face the challenges of dual relationships and confidentiality, but also changes in paradigms and clinical approaches. In the first session, we explored the ethical implications in clinical practice and provided a review on problem gambling.  We also discussed some important clinical considerations when working with depressed males.

The second segment of this training will concentrate on things to consider when dealing with young adults regarding internet gambling and online gaming. We will discuss the availability and potential dangers that technology poses to this vulnerable population.  We’ll then explore the LGBTQ population, focusing on the four elements of gender and the movement from gender binarism to a continuum.  Finally, we’ll provide recommendations on how to be an ally or advocate for all individuals in your practice.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session, the participant will be able to:

  • Incorporate three safeguards for working with tech savvy young adults
  • Define and Understand Internet Gaming Disorder
  • Understand two areas that might pose ethical challenges when working with LGBTQ populations: dealing with the four different elements of gender and working with bisexual/transgender populations.
